With rising electricity costs, stricter regulations, and newer ASICs pricing out solo miners, I’ve been wondering:

Is there still a realistic path for individuals to profit from mining in 2025—or is it now a game only large-scale operations can win?

I've seen a few people on Reddit still running low-power rigs or repurposed GPUs for altcoins, and some experimenting with solar setups, but the margins seem razor-thin.

Would love to hear real experiences from anyone still mining from home. Are you earning anything meaningful? What coins (if any) still make sense to mine on a small scale?

Appreciate your honest insights. Let’s separate myth from reality.

Great question — and yeah, the mining game in 2025 definitely feels like a different beast.

I’ve been solo mining on a small scale for a while now — nothing massive, just a couple of older ASICs (S9s) and a test GPU rig I point at smaller altcoins when something interesting pops up. To be honest, profitability is tight — even with cheaper electricity (I’m in a rural area), it’s mostly a break-even hobby unless I get lucky with price swings.

That said, here’s what I’ve learned:

🔹 Altcoins still have potential — stuff like Kaspa, Nexa, or even Ravencoin (RVN) can be viable depending on your rig and local power cost.

🔹 Solar helps, but the upfront cost is real. I know a couple of folks experimenting with hybrid setups (solar + grid), and while it’s not wildly profitable, it does offset bills and extends ROI.

🔹 Used hardware markets are worth exploring — you can still find good deals on older gear if you’re just trying to learn or play around without going all-in.

🔹 Mining pools are a must. Solo mining something like BTC is almost pointless now, but pooling lets you get smaller, regular payouts.

Overall, I’d say if you’re doing it for the tech, the challenge, or long-term accumulation, it’s still worth exploring. But if you're hoping to get rich off a garage rig in 2025? That ship’s mostly sailed unless you're in a very favorable setup.

Would love to hear what others are mining these days — always on the lookout for overlooked coins or efficiency tips!
