Hey everyone 👋

Just wanted to start a thread and see who else here is working in crypto as a freelancer or looking to break into the space.

I’ve been doing full-time freelance work in crypto/web3 for a while now — mostly content writing, community management, and occasional product consulting. It’s been a wild ride! The freedom and flexibility are amazing, but yeah… chasing payments, dealing with flaky clients, and navigating bear markets isn’t always fun 😅

That said, the opportunities are still there if you know where to look. DAOs, DeFi protocols, NFT projects, even infrastructure startups — lots of teams need part-time or contract help, especially if you bring niche skills (like governance writing, tokenomics, smart contract auditing, etc.).

Some questions for the community:

  • What kind of crypto work are you doing (or looking to do)?

  • Which platforms or Discords have actually led to paid gigs for you?

  • How do you handle contracts and payment (especially with stablecoins)?

  • And are you finding work easier or harder this year?

Would love to swap tips, wins, and war stories with other freelancers in the space. Let’s help each other out — the gig economy hits different when it's on-chain 💼🧠

Hey, thanks for kicking this off — this thread is super relatable.

I’ve been freelancing in crypto since early 2023, mostly doing front-end dev and dApp integrations. Started with small gigs on Dework and RabbitHole, but eventually found more consistent work through DAO contributor roles and just… being present in project communities. Showing up daily in Discord and offering help (without pitching myself) surprisingly led to a few solid leads.

A few thoughts from my side:

🔗 Best platform for me? Twitter + guild Discords. I landed my longest gig through a referral in a DAO's ops channel. Don’t sleep on those obscure subchannels — they’re gold mines.

💸 Getting paid: I usually ask for stablecoins (USDC, DAI) and send out a basic Notion-hosted contract or use Sablier/Superfluid for streaming payments if the team is crypto-native. If they’re not familiar, I fall back on milestone-based payments in USDC.

📉 This year vs last year: It’s definitely slower than the last cycle, but the upside is most of the projects now are actually building. Less noise, more signal.

📄 Pro tip: Even if it’s a small gig, ask for testimonials and link them in your portfolio or X (Twitter) bio. Social proof really matters in web3 — people trust people more than platforms.

Looking forward to hearing what’s working for others — always down to learn from fellow freelancers in the trenches.

Keep grinding fam 🔥
